Managing Treatment Experience Study
Making methotrexate easier to understand—with children, for children
Welcome to the MTX Study
Empowering children to feel confident and informed about methotrexate
The Managing Treatment eXperience (MTX) study is a new research project funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), focused on improving how children with rheumatic conditions understand and manage their treatment with methotrexate.
Methotrexate is a common medication for children and young people to take for rheumatic conditions. Children, families, and healthcare professionals have told us that better, more child-friendly information is urgently needed. That’s where this project comes in.
Over the next 18 months, our team will work closely with children aged 6–16, their families, and clinicians to co-create engaging resources—like animations, activity books, and prompt cards—that make methotrexate treatment easier to understand and manage.
This study is led by a passionate team : Dr Daniela Ghio, Professor Lucy Bray, Mrs Emily Earle, Dr Hanna Lythgoe, Dr Clare Pain, Mr Octavio Aragon Cuevas, and Ms Sarah Aitken.
Together, we’re committed to listening to children’s voices and creating tools that truly support them on their treatment journey.
